Out of my first 6 games, I go 2-4 and even though I'm not at the point in my bankroll where I feel I should be to drop back down to $20, my confidence is at the point where I feel I have to drop down.
Upon doing so I loose 4 straight. Fuck me. I fire up one table, and play a nice, quick game where I dominate. I play one more, which I win, but which takes 25 minutes. 25 minutes at a single table is long. I decide I need a break, so I go grocery shopping.
I get back, unpack the groceries and then sit back down at the tables, and I'm a man possessed. I played 16 total, where I won13 of them. After 11 games I even moved back up to the $30 games, where I went 5-1. For the day I played good, but it really showed me how much concentration I need if I want to play well.
I'll give you an example of a hand I'd have pretty much always folded, but called for a big pot early in the game. In fact, it was the second hand of the game I think. With A2o, I raise to 3x and my opponent calls. The flop comes down A94 with two spades and he donks it for half pot. I call.
At this point I feel his range is pretty wide. He could have a 9, a flush draw, a better ace, a pocket pair like 99 or air.
The turn brings a 4, which I don't see as a bad card. I don't think he's donking very often with it. He then donks again for 140 this time (into a pot of 240). Seeing as it's early I'm not really sure how aggressive he is, but most people at these levels aren't aggro enough fire multipul streets with a flush draw, they'll usually c/c a blank turn. I think for a second and call.
The turn is a 6 and it completes the flush draw. He donks 420 into 520. Now I'm still not entirely sure if my line of thought is correct here, but I couldn't think of a hand he'd have that beats me. If he's aggressive enough to be betting three streets oop, he's probably 3-betting AJ+ pre. Maybe he has A9, and maybe he has a flush draw, but if he had the flush draw I donno if he would have bet that big, because it's a pretty obvious possibility. I think he would have bet in the 200-300 range, but it was still possible. All put together I figured he either had the flush, air, or we were splitting the pot. If I lost, I'd still have around 800 chips left, which would be 40bb and I'd be comfortable enough to play with that, and I just felt his line made no sense for a lot of hands that beat me, except the flush.
So of course he had AK. Ha, kidding. He had T8 of clubs.
