I’m back!

What's up world. Long time since I've posted, since that was pretty much when I had to stop playing poker due to my job. The hours kept getting longer as work kept getting busier, and while it was good for the pocketbook, it was bad for my mind.

I was ready to lose it, and so I got out. I'm now back in school, studying to be a graphic artist. I'm might try to include an image I've made in each of my posts, just to make things more interesting for you, and keep up with one of my other passions at the same time.

In the meantime, I've switched away from cash games. I started playing poker through SnGs, then moved onto cash games, and now through the inspiration of MJW003 at PokerSavvy Plus I'm playing HU SnGs. I've always enjoyed HU poker, and started playing there because I figured they'd probably be beatable at the lower stakes, and unlike cash the results would be a bit more immediate.

What's happened since is I've destroyed the $10 games, beat the $20 games with a sample of 150 (which is still pretty small) with an ROI of 12.5 and since then I've gotten destroyed in the $30 games from a combination of bad play and running like dog poo. After taking several shots at the $30 games I figured I'd finally made it when I went on a 15-4 streak, where someone had clearly hit my boomswitch (flopped set over set, flopped flushes, and hitting 3 outers whenever needed). I finally had my ROI at the $30 games at zero, which was an achievement considering how bad it had been.

I now sit back at my minimum $30 game BR and hope to be able to get winning again. My main problems are having become a bit overconfident in my game, and after some review, away from what brought me to the dance. My aggression (except for my games today) has been non-existent post flop, which is generally a bad idea HU.

Another problem for me seems to be over aggression pre-flop or in marginal spots when I have my opponent against the ropes. I strongly believe that if I have my opponent at half his starting stack or less, I should be completely willing to take a coin flip and end the tourney right there, and if not the worst case you're back to even and you can grind him back down. Against some opponents this might not be the most +EV way of going about it, but in general I don't see anything wrong with this thinking. What I've been doing though is getting into spots where I'm clearly going for, at most, 8 or 9 outs. I think this is bad, unless I have FE and I'm pushing. But I keep doing this in spots where it's obvious I have zero, or very little FE and in general trying way too hard to end matches in marginal spots.

I'm hoping to start posting here daily, or at least bi-daily. I know I've said this before, so if anyone actually reads this post, they can be cynical if they wish and I won't blame them.

But for now, let's hope I keep it up.

My goals for the month are to play 200 games, and I'm at 150 so far so I think I can make it. I also plan to still be playing in the $30 games, but if my BR doesn't allow me I'll drop down. And just incase you're interested, I'm moving up whenever I have 20BI at the new level, and dropping back down if I drop down to 15BI at any given level. Right now I'm on my third shot at the $30 games.
