After a shitty two sessions where I've pretty much got myself back down to the point where I have to drop down again soon, mostly due to my own shitty play and a few flush over flushes just put the cherry on the cake, I've set myself some goals.
I'd started two-tabling and noticed several flaws when I do so, so I'm dropping back down to one.
Because I'm back in school and have no income, and because my fiancée is making enough coin for us to live off of, but not enough to save decent chunks of money and/or have the same lifestyle we've been enjoying since we got together, I need to get a job. I already knew this, and we'd both agreed that after Christmas vacation was over I needed to go job hunting. Thing is, I don't really want to work and goto school, cause my life is going to become depressing again and I won't have time for much at all.
Below is a really long post of why I'm setting the rules I'm about to put. So if you have time, you can read a long post. If not, here is a bullet form of what I'm setting up for myself.
-Play one table at a time
-Get to $50 games by Jan. 4th, with a BR of at least 25 BI
-Have an ROI of around 5-10% through $20 and $30 levels
Once I'm at the 50s:
-Play one table
-Maintain 5% ROI
-Play ~200 games a month
-Withdraw money only when above 30 BI
-If BR ever drops below 25 BI, drop back to 30s
-Withdraw a maximum of 10 BI every two weeks (shouldn't ever be an issue, but just in case)
-If BR ever reaches high enough, a mininum of 30BI to take a shot
-Drop back down to $50s after a two BI drop at 100s
So with all this in mind, I have until the end of this Holiday season (January 4th) to make it up to the $50 games, with a minimum of 25 buy-ins. Once my vacation starts I should be able to log a pretty decent amount of games, and if I can sustain a 10% ROI (which I haven't been doing recently), I'd be at my goal within approximately 300 games played. Yes, all this with one table. If I make it to the $50 (52.5 w/ rake) games and maintain a 5-10% ROI, I'd be able to make ~$375/100 games.
So far this month I've logged over 100 games, but some of that time I was 2-tabling. So the way I see it, if I could make between $300 and $500 every month, I'd be happy. And the advantage is, if I have a bad spell it won't mean I can't pay bills because we have money coming in anyway, and if this turns out the be a big fucking failure (which I think it just might), I can always get a real job.
So starting tonight I have a hard plan to follow on my progression, and I have to do this all 1-tabling, because right now my 2-tabling skills are really lacking and I'd rather go with the lower variance plan. If ever I really feel that my game is very much improved and I have a cushion in my BR, I'd take a shot 2-tabling as see how it goes, with probably a 6-buyin downswing as my cut-off to the experiment.
Also, if by January 4th I'm under my target, but maintaining the ROI I was aiming for, but just haven't logged the volume, I'll commit to it still, but I won't start removing any money from my BR until I hit the $50 games.
Also another rule I'm setting for myself is to always have a minimum of 25 buy-ins at the $50 games, and anytime I cashout, I need to leave 30 buy-ins. In other words, if I drop below 30 buy-ins I can keep playing the $50 games, but if I drop below 25 I have to move down in stakes.
If ever I am kicking tons of ass and despite my withdrawals my BR continues to grow, I can only move up in stakes when I have at least 30 BI for a given level, and I'm only going to give myself a 2 BI shot at new levels, so if I hit a bad streak it won't destroy me. I don't think I'll ever really have to worry about this, but still. To allow my BR to grow though, I'm also setting a max withdrawal of 10buy-ins every two weeks, no matter how many games I'm playing. This would result in ~1000 a month, which is more than I would ever need (and more than I think I'll be making, to be realistic, but I figure I should cover all bases).
